Retaining walls that hold the hill — and look like they belong.

Duluth's slopes and heavy soils punish an under-built wall. We engineer for the load, the water, and the frost — then finish it so the wall reads as architecture instead of infrastructure.

  • Natural stone, segmental block, and boulder wall systems
  • Engineered drainage and geogrid reinforcement behind every wall
  • Built for freeze-thaw, heavy soils, and lakeshore slopes
  • Retaining, garden, seating, and freestanding decorative walls
  • Serving Duluth & the Northland since 1987

What we build.

Walls solve different problems depending on where they sit on the property. We build all of them, and we size the structure to the job rather than to a catalog.

Retaining Walls

Segmental block and natural stone walls that hold grade, reclaim usable yard, and stabilize a slope for good.

Boulder Walls

Placed natural boulder walls that suit rugged Northland sites and read as though the stone was always there.

Garden & Bed Walls

Lower walls that define planting beds, raise soil for better drainage, and give a bed a finished edge.

Seating Walls

Cap-height freestanding walls that add permanent seating around a patio or fire feature without crowding it.

Freestanding Stone Walls

Decorative and screening walls built for architectural interest, privacy, or property definition.

A wall is a water project before it is a stonework project.

Most failed walls in the Northland didn't fail because the block was wrong. They failed because water got behind them and froze. Everything we do on a wall starts from that fact.

What happens behind the wall decides how long it stands.

Every wall we build gets clear stone backfill, drain tile daylighted to grade, and geogrid tied back into the slope at engineered intervals. Water gets a path out before it can collect, saturate, and push.

We size the base and the reinforcement to the actual load — the height of the hill, the soil type, and whether there's a driveway or a structure sitting above it. That's the part you'll never see, and it's the part that determines whether the wall is still straight in twenty years.

Fieldstone seating and retaining walls terraced around a patio by Miller Creek

Structure that reads as design.

A retaining wall solves a grading problem, but it also becomes one of the largest visual elements on the property. Material, cap detail, curve, and whether to terrace instead of building one tall face are design decisions, not just engineering ones.

We design walls alongside the steps, patios, lighting, and planting pockets they touch — so the finished grade change feels intentional. If you're pricing a wall in isolation, we'll still ask what's above and below it, because that's what makes it look right.

Take your outdoor space from potential to perfection.
